Porsche 911 (991/992), Cayenne, Macan, Panamera & 718 — 9A2 Family Performance Ignition Coils
The Porsche 9A2 coil family covers almost the entire modern Porsche performance range — from the 911 GT3's 9,000-rpm NA flat-six to the Cayenne Turbo GT's 4.0 twin-turbo V8, and everything in between. The 991.2/992 Carrera / Turbo / GT3, 718 Boxster/Cayman (2.0T/2.5T/4.0), Cayenne 9YA V6/V8, Macan 95B, and Panamera 971 all share the same coil-on-plug assembly. MTP-1004 is a direct plug & play replacement engineered in the UK, delivering 12% more spark energy from a neodymium-core primary winding — a straight swap with better heat handling under sustained boost or high-rpm running.

Set includes all 6 coils. Only need one? Choose "Just 1 coil" if you're replacing a single failed unit.
Signs your 9A2 family (911 / 718 / Cayenne / Macan / Panamera) needs new coils
- Misfire codes P0301–P0308 on Durametric, PIWIS or a generic OBDII scanner
- Rough idle from cold — especially noticeable on flat-6 Carrera and GT3 variants
- Cayenne Turbo / Panamera Turbo losing top-end pull above 4,500 rpm under boost
- Fuel economy dropping without another cause
- Intermittent CEL that clears on next start
- Boost feeling flat or hesitant on hard throttle in mid-range
Installation notes
Direct plug & play — no PIWIS coding, no dealer trip. Identical fitment across every 9A2 platform. Access varies by model: 911 flat-6 requires removing the rear engine cover panels; Cayenne / Macan / Panamera V6 and V8 need the intake plenum plastics off first. Torx-head coil bolts on most variants — torque to 8 Nm. Always replace as a set for even spark distribution — mixed-age coils cause the ECU to pull timing, negating the performance benefit of the new units. Total install time: 30 minutes on 911, 45–60 minutes on Cayenne / Panamera V8.
Common questions
Will this fit my 911 / Cayenne / Macan / Panamera without coding?
Yes. Direct plug & play replacement — the ECU reads MTP-1004 identically to the OE Porsche coil. No PIWIS, no coding, no dealer visit required on any 9A2-family variant.
Do I need the full set, or can I just replace one?
We recommend replacing as a full set. If one coil has failed, the others have seen identical heat and hours — they're likely close behind. Mixed-age coils cause uneven spark distribution, and the ECU compensates by pulling timing, which loses the performance benefit of the new coils. If you're just fixing a specific misfire in a pinch, a single MTP-1004 will work as an interim measure. This template lists 6 coils by default (911 flat-6 / Cayenne V6 / Macan V6 / Panamera V6); 4-cyl 718 owners need 4, and V8 Cayenne Turbo / GTS / Panamera Turbo owners need 8 — use the individual-coil option to buy the exact quantity for your car.
How does this compare to the OEM Denso / Eldor coil?
Denso and Eldor are Porsche's sole-source OEM suppliers, and aftermarket options for the 9A2 family are genuinely thin — that's part of why MTP-1004 exists. Compared to OEM: 12% more spark energy from a redesigned primary winding, a neodymium magnetic core for stronger flux, better heat dissipation in the top-hat body, and UK-engineered QA on every unit. Same physical fit, same connector, same wiring. Especially valuable on tuned 991.2 Turbo, Cayenne Turbo GT, and Urus-cousin 4.0 V8 platforms where cylinder pressures push OE coils toward their limits.
