Hyundai i30N, Kia Stinger 2.0T & Genesis G70 — Theta II Performance Ignition Coils

The Hyundai / Kia / Genesis Theta II family — 2.0 T-GDI G4KH and 2.4 GDI G4KJ — powers the halo cars of the group's performance lineup: the Hyundai i30N (280 hp), the Kia Stinger 2.0T, and the Genesis G70 2.0T. All of them share the same coil-on-plug assembly, and all of them lean hard on it — the i30N runs 20+ psi from the factory and OE coils are a known weak point once N-Mode and overboost get involved. MTP-1008 is a direct plug & play replacement engineered in the UK, delivering 12% more spark energy from a neodymium-core primary — a straight swap with better heat handling and cleaner ignition under sustained boost.

Signs your Theta II 2.0 T-GDI & 2.4 GDI needs new coils

  • Misfire codes P0301–P0304 on Torque Pro, N-Mode diagnostics or a generic OBDII scanner
  • Rough idle from cold — especially noticeable on i30N and Stinger 2.0T
  • Loss of overboost / top-end pull above 5,500 rpm in N-Mode
  • Fuel trims drifting without an intake or injector fault
  • Intermittent CEL clearing after a drive cycle
  • Stumble or flat spot on WOT hard shifts — especially on tuned i30N / Stinger 2.0T

Installation notes

Direct plug & play — no coding, no dealer trip, no GDS work required. Identical fitment across every Theta II 2.0 T-GDI and 2.4 GDI variant. Access is straightforward on all applications: pop the engine cover, unclip the coil harness connectors, 10mm bolt out, swap coils in, bolt back in — 10 Nm torque. Always replace as a set of 4 for even spark distribution; mixed-age coils cause the ECU to pull timing to compensate, which negates the performance benefit of the new units. Total install time: 20–30 minutes.

Common questions

Will this fit my i30N / Stinger 2.0T / G70 without coding?

Yes. Direct plug & play replacement — the ECU reads MTP-1008 identically to the OE Hyundai / Kia coil (27300-2GGA0). No coding, no GDS, no dealer visit required on any Theta II 2.0 T-GDI or 2.4 GDI variant.

Do I really need all 4, or can I just replace one?

We strongly recommend replacing all 4 as a set. If one coil has failed, the others have seen identical heat cycles and boost hours — they're likely close behind. Mixed-age coils cause uneven spark, and the ECU compensates by pulling timing, which loses the performance benefit of the new coils. That said, if you just need to clear a specific misfire in a hurry, a single MTP-1008 will work as an interim fix.

Will this hold up on a tuned i30N or Stinger 2.0T?

Yes — tuned Theta II is where MTP-1008 really earns its place. Stage 1 / Stage 2 tunes on the i30N and Stinger 2.0T push cylinder pressures noticeably beyond OE spec, and worn OE coils start to break down under sustained overboost long before they'd fail on a stock car. The 12% spark-energy uplift and neodymium primary core give you the headroom to hold ignition cleanly. Same physical fit, same connector, same wiring — a straight swap.
