Hyundai i20 N, Veloster Turbo, Kona 1.6T & Kia Ceed GT — 1.6 T-GDI Performance Ignition Coils
The Hyundai i20 N is what many people agree may be the last true compact hot hatch - a punchy 1.6 turbo with a proper mechanical LSD, in a car small enough to actually enjoy on a British B-road.
The Hyundai Motor Group's 1.6 T-GDI powers a whole generation of hot and warm Hyundais and Kias - from the Gamma-engined Veloster Turbo, Ceed GT and Kona 1.6T through to the Smartstream-era i20 N, Kona N-Line and Tucson.
Both generations share the same OE ignition coil (27301-2M417), and both are hard-working small-turbo fours with well-documented coil weakness on cold cranks and mid-boost.
MTP-1005 is a direct plug & play replacement, UK-engineered with 12% more spark energy through a redesigned neodymium primary winding. Same fit, same connector — no coding, no compromise.

Signs your 1.6 T-GDI — Gamma (G4FJ) & Smartstream (G4FP) needs new coils
> Misfire codes P0301–P0304 on OBDII
> Rough cold-start idle, first-thing cough
> Loss of pull between 3,000–5,000 rpm (classic tuned-Gamma symptom)
> Stumble on hard throttle after a Stage 1 remap
> Occasional CEL that clears on next start
Installation notes
Direct plug & play — no coding, no dealer tools required. Remove the plastic engine cover, disconnect the coil connectors (push-tab, then pull), single 10mm bolt each coil, coils lift straight out. Replace as a set of 4 — mixed-age coils cause uneven spark and the ECU pulls timing to compensate, killing the performance benefit on tuned cars. Torque to 8 Nm. Total install: 10–15 minutes.
Common questions
Does MTP-1005 fit the Hyundai i20 N?
Yes — direct fit. The i20 N's Smartstream 1.6 T-GDI (G4FP) uses the same OE coil (27301-2M417) as the earlier Gamma engines, verified against Hyundai's own parts catalogue. Plug & play, no coding — replace as a set of 4.
Will these fit my Veloster Turbo or Ceed GT without coding?
Yes. Direct plug & play — the ECU reads MTP-1005 identically to the OE Hyundai/Kia part (27301-2M417). No coding, no GDS work required.
What's the difference vs the OE Hyundai coil?
12% more spark energy from a redesigned neodymium primary winding, better heat dissipation, and UK-engineered QA. Same physical fit, same connector — a straight swap for OE 27301-2M417 with headroom for tuned use.
