Installation notes
Direct plug & play — no coding, no dealer tools required, identical fitment across Ford Duratec H and Volvo B52xx variants. Remove the engine cover (Focus RS/ST: 3x 10mm nuts; Volvo R: pull-off clips), pull the OE coils, unclip the connectors, and swap in the MTP-1009s. Because these are 5-cylinder turbo engines living on boost, always replace as a set of 5 — mixed-age coils cause uneven spark distribution and the ECU pulls timing to compensate, which kills the performance benefit of the new units. Torque coil bolts to 8 Nm. Total install time: 25–35 minutes on Focus, slightly longer on Volvo R due to intake plumbing.

Will this fit my Focus RS Mk2 / ST225 / Volvo R without coding?
Yes. Direct plug & play replacement — the ECU reads MTP-1009 identically to the OE Ford / Volvo coil. No coding, no Ford IDS or Volvo VIDA work needed on any 2.5 5-cyl variant, including RS500.
Do I really need all 5, or can I just replace one?
We strongly recommend replacing all 5 as a set. If one coil has failed, the other four have seen identical heat and hours — they're likely close behind. Mixed-age coils cause uneven spark, and the ECU compensates by pulling timing, which loses the performance benefit of the new coils. That said, if you're in a bind and just need to get the RS moving, one MTP-1009 will absolutely work as a temporary fix.
I'm running a Mountune or Revo tune / MP350 map — is this coil up to it?
Yes — this is where the 12% spark-energy upgrade earns its keep. Tuned Mk2 RS / RS500 and mapped Volvo R cars push cylinder pressures well beyond factory spec, and OE coils are a known weak link on hard-mapped 5-cylinders.
