Installation notes
Direct plug & play — no coding, no FORScan or Volvo VIDA work required, identical fitment across all BM5G 1.6 EcoBoost and Volvo B4164T variants. Remove the engine cover (Fiesta ST: pull-off clip; Focus / Kuga: 8mm nuts; Volvo: pull-off), unclip the 4 coil connectors, pull the OE coils, and swap in the MTP-1012s. Because the 1.6 EcoBoost is a small-capacity turbo working hard under boost, always replace as a set of 4 — mixed-age coils cause uneven spark distribution and the PCM pulls timing to compensate, negating the performance benefit of the new units. Torque coil bolts to 8 Nm. Total install time: 20–25 minutes on Fiesta ST, slightly longer on Volvo due to intake plumbing.

Will this fit my Fiesta ST180 / Focus 1.6 EB / Volvo 1.6T without coding?
Yes. Direct plug & play replacement — the PCM reads MTP-1012 identically to the OE Ford BM5G / Volvo 31422117 coil. No coding, no FORScan, no Volvo VIDA/DiCE work needed on any 1.6 EcoBoost or B4164T variant.
Do I really need all 4, or can I just replace one?
We strongly recommend replacing all 4 as a set. If one coil has failed, the other three have seen identical heat and hours — they're likely close behind. Mixed-age coils cause uneven spark, and the PCM compensates by pulling timing, which loses the performance benefit of the new coils. That said, if you're in a bind and just need to get the ST moving, one MTP-1012 will absolutely work as a temporary fix.
I'm running Mountune MP215 / MP230 (or a Revo / Pumaspeed map) — is this coil up to it?
Yes — this is exactly the use case MTP-1012 is built for. Mapped Fiesta ST180s (MP215 lifts the car to 215 bhp, MP230 further still) push cylinder pressures well beyond the factory 180 bhp spec, and the OE BM5G coil is a known weak link once boost sits higher for longer.
