Ford Fiesta Mk8, Focus Mk4, Puma & EcoSport — 1.0 EcoBoost (H6BG) Performance Ignition Coils
The Mk8-era Ford 1.0 EcoBoost is one of the most widely-fitted small-capacity turbo engines on UK roads — powering the Fiesta Mk8, Focus Mk4, Puma, EcoSport and Transit Courier. All of them share the same H6BG / JX6G coil-on-plug, and all of them are known for coil failure long before the rest of the engine wears out. MTP-1010 is a direct plug & play replacement engineered in the UK, delivering 12% more spark energy across all 3 cylinders — same fit, better heat handling, cleaner ignition at boost.

Signs your 1.0 EcoBoost 3-Cylinder (H6BG / JX6G platform) needs new coils
- Misfire codes P0301–P0303 on FORScan, ELMconfig or a generic OBDII scanner
- Rough idle when cold — especially first-thing in the morning
- Noticeable loss of pull above 3,500 rpm under load
- Fuel economy dropping without another explanation
- Intermittent check-engine light that clears on next start
- Hesitation or judder on pull-away — classic single-coil misfire symptom
Installation notes
Direct plug & play — no coding, no FORScan work required, identical fitment across all H6BG / JX6G 1.0 EcoBoost variants. Remove the engine cover (pull-off), unclip the 3 coil connectors, pull the OE coils, and swap in the MTP-1010s. Because the 1.0 EcoBoost is a 3-cylinder turbo working under high specific output, always replace as a set of 3 — mixed-age coils cause uneven spark distribution and the ECU pulls timing to compensate, negating the performance benefit of the new units. Torque coil bolts to 8 Nm. Total install time: 15–20 minutes.
Common questions
Will this fit my Fiesta Mk8 / Focus Mk4 / Puma without coding?
Yes. Direct plug & play replacement — the PCM reads MTP-1010 identically to the OE Ford H6BG coil. No coding, no FORScan or IDS work needed on any Mk8-era 1.0 EcoBoost variant.
Do I really need all 3, or can I just replace one?
We strongly recommend replacing all 3 as a set. On a 3-cylinder the coils are worked hard and evenly — if one has failed, the other two have seen identical heat and hours and are likely close behind. Mixed-age coils cause uneven spark, and the ECU compensates by pulling timing, which loses the performance benefit of the new coils. That said, if you're in a bind and just need to get moving, one MTP-1010 will absolutely work as a temporary fix.
The 1.0 EcoBoost has a reputation for coil failure — is this coil actually better?
That's exactly what MTP-1010 is designed for. The OE H6BG runs a slim primary winding that struggles with sustained heat under boost, which is why so many Fiesta / Focus / Puma owners see repeat coil failures. MTP-1010 uses a redesigned neodymium primary core, better heat dissipation, and UK-engineered QA — 12% more spark energy with more thermal headroom. Same physical fit, same connector, same wiring — a straight swap that lasts.
