Ford Fiesta Mk7, B-Max, EcoSport Gen1, Focus Mk3 & C-Max II 1.0 EcoBoost — Performance Ignition Coils
The original CM5G-era Ford 1.0 EcoBoost is the engine that put Ford's 3-cylinder turbo on the map — International Engine of the Year multiple times running — and it's also the engine that made "1.0 EcoBoost coil failure" a familiar phrase to every Ford tech in the country. The Fiesta Mk7, B-Max, EcoSport Gen1, Focus Mk3, C-Max II and Mondeo Mk5 all share the same CM5G coil-on-plug, and every one of them is prone to coil breakdown well before the rest of the engine wears. MTP-1011 is a direct plug & play replacement engineered in the UK, delivering 12% more spark energy across all 3 cylinders — same fit, better heat handling, cleaner ignition on boost.

Signs your 1.0 EcoBoost 3-Cylinder (CM5G platform) needs new coils
- Misfire codes P0301–P0303 on FORScan, ELMconfig or a generic OBDII scanner
- Rough idle when cold — especially first-thing in the morning
- Noticeable loss of pull above 3,500 rpm under load
- Fuel economy dropping without another explanation
- Intermittent check-engine light that clears on next start
- Judder or hesitation on pull-away — classic CM5G single-coil misfire symptom
Installation notes
Direct plug & play — no coding, no FORScan work required, identical fitment across all CM5G 1.0 EcoBoost variants (BA / CA / CB suffix). Pull the engine cover, unclip the 3 coil connectors, remove the OE coils, and swap in the MTP-1011s. Because the 1.0 EcoBoost is a 3-cylinder turbo working under high specific output, always replace as a set of 3 — mixed-age coils cause uneven spark distribution and the PCM pulls timing to compensate, negating the performance benefit of the new units. Torque coil bolts to 8 Nm. Total install time: 15–20 minutes on Fiesta / B-Max, slightly longer on Focus Mk3 / Mondeo Mk5 due to intake plumbing.
Common questions
Will this fit my Fiesta Mk7 / Focus Mk3 / Mondeo 1.0 EB without coding?
Yes. Direct plug & play replacement — the PCM reads MTP-1011 identically to the OE Ford CM5G coil. No coding, no FORScan or IDS work needed on any Mk7-era 1.0 EcoBoost variant, across all BA / CA / CB suffix versions.
Do I really need all 3, or can I just replace one?
We strongly recommend replacing all 3 as a set. On a 3-cylinder the coils are worked hard and evenly — if one has failed, the other two have seen identical heat and hours and are likely close behind. Mixed-age coils cause uneven spark, and the PCM compensates by pulling timing, which loses the performance benefit of the new coils. That said, if you're in a bind and just need to get moving, one MTP-1011 will absolutely work as a temporary fix.
The Mk7-era 1.0 EcoBoost has a real reputation for coil failure — is this actually better?
That's exactly the market MTP-1011 is built for. The OE CM5G coil is one of the most-replaced ignition parts in the Ford aftermarket — heat under sustained boost breaks down the primary winding long before the rest of the engine wears out. MTP-1011 uses a redesigned neodymium primary core, better heat dissipation, and UK-engineered QA — 12% more spark energy with real thermal headroom. Same physical fit, same connector, same wiring — a straight swap that lasts.
