Fiat 500, Abarth 500 / 595 / 695, Alfa MiTo & Jeep Renegade — 1.4 T-Jet Performance Ignition Coils
The Alfa 4C coil upgrade — done right. For years the only T-Jet ignition upgrade was a borrowed coil from the Alfa Romeo 4C / Giulietta QV — swap in the higher-output part, hope you got a good one, run without warranty. It works, but it means cross-referencing part numbers, no cover if it fails, and pot-luck on quality. The Mantis MTP-1018 is that upgrade, engineered and warrantied: one OE plug-and-play coil, UK-engineered around Mantis' neodymium magnetic core, delivering 12% more spark energy. Same fit, same connector — no coding, no compromise, no leap of faith.

Signs your 1.4 T-Jet & 1.4 MultiAir 4-cyl turbo needs new coils
- Misfire codes P0301–P0304 on OBDII (very common on ageing T-Jet)
- Cold-start stumble — classic Abarth / MiTo symptom
- Rough idle first-thing, especially in winter
- Loss of pull under boost, especially between 2,500–4,500 rpm
- Occasional CEL that clears on the next start
Installation notes
Direct plug & play — no coding, no dealer tools required. Remove the plastic engine cover, disconnect the coil connectors (push-tab, then pull), single 8mm bolt per coil, coils lift straight up. Replace as a set of 4 — mixed-age coils cause uneven spark and the ECU pulls timing to compensate, killing the performance benefit. Torque to 8 Nm. Total install: 10–15 minutes on a 500 Abarth, similar across the range.
Common questions
Why not just fit the cheaper Alfa 4C coil like everyone on the forums says?
You can — but it's a part-number gamble with no warranty and variable quality depending on which Alfa 4C coil you happen to end up with. MTP-1018 is purpose-made to that higher-output spec, fits the same way, and is covered for 2 years. It's the proper version of the swap Abarth owners have been doing for years.
Do I need a remap to feel it?
No. A stronger, more complete burn helps stock and tuned cars alike — most noticeable on cold starts and at the top of the rev range. It complements a map (Squadra, Alfaholics, APR, EVOMS); it doesn't require one.
Will one part really fit all those models — 500, MiTo, Giulietta, Renegade?
Yes — they all share the FCA 1.4 T-Jet / MultiAir coil-on-plug design. Same physical coil, same connector, same wiring. Always check the OE number stamped on your existing coil against our cross-reference list below before ordering — it should be one of 55270223, 55233019, or 71744820.
