Pop the engine cover (pull straight up), unclip the coil connectors, 8mm bolt out, swap coils, bolt back in — 8 Nm torque. Always replace as a set for even spark distribution; mixed-age coils cause the DME to pull timing, which negates the performance benefit of the new units. Total install time: 25–35 minutes on inline-6 platforms (B58 / S58 / GR Supra), 20 minutes on B48 4-cyl.

Yes. Direct plug & play replacement — the DME reads MTP-1006 identically to the OE BMW coil (12 13 8 643 360 and family). No BimmerCode, no coding, no dealer visit required on any B38 / B48 / B58 / S58 variant, and no coding needed on the Toyota GR Supra A90 either.
Do I need the full set, or can I just replace one?
We recommend the full set. If one coil has failed, the others have seen identical heat cycles and hours — they're likely close behind. Mixed-age coils cause uneven spark distribution, and the DME compensates by pulling timing, which loses the performance benefit of the new coils. If you just need to clear one misfire in a hurry, a single MTP-1006 will work as an interim fix. This template lists 6 coils by default (B58 / S58 / GR Supra inline-six); B38 3-cyl owners need 3, B48 4-cyl owners need 4 — use the individual-coil option to buy the exact quantity.
Will this hold up on a Stage 1 / Stage 2 tuned B58 or S58?
Yes — this is exactly where MTP-1006 earns its keep.
