Audi RS3, TT RS & RS Q3 — 2.5 TFSI Five-Cylinder Performance Ignition Coils

Nine-time International Engine of the Year. The 1-2-4-5-3 firing order that made the quattro rally cars sing. Audi's 2.5 TFSI five-cylinder is the most charismatic engine of its era — and from the iron-block RS3 8P to the 400 bhp EA855 evo in the RS3 8Y, TT RS and RS Q3, every one of them fires through the same 07K pencil coil. MTP-1002 is a direct plug & play replacement engineered in the UK, delivering 12% more spark energy across all five cylinders — the same coil trusted on the R8 V10, ready for the five-pot's relentless boost.

Signs your RS3 (8P / 8V / 8Y) · TT RS (8J / 8S) · RS Q3 (8U / F3) needs new coils

  • Misfire codes P0301–P0305 on VCDS / OBDeleven or a generic OBDII scanner
  • Rough idle when cold — the five-cylinder warble turning lumpy
  • Flat spots or hesitation on full boost above 4,500 rpm
  • Intermittent EPC or flashing check-engine light under hard acceleration
  • Timing pull on logged runs without another obvious cause
  • Stage 1/2 cars: misfires appearing only after the remap — classic sign the OE coils are out of headroom

Installation notes

Direct plug & play — no coding, no VCDS work, identical fitment across every 2.5 TFSI variant from RS3 8P to RS Q3 F3. Remove the engine cover, unclip each connector, pull the OE 07K coils and press in the MTP-1002s. Always replace as a set of 5 — mixed-age coils give uneven spark and the ECU pulls timing to protect the engine, which wastes the upgrade. On EA855 evo cars (8V facelift onwards) the rearmost coil is tight against the bulkhead — a long-reach pick helps release the clip. Total install time: 20–30 minutes.

Common questions

Will this fit my RS3 / TT RS / RS Q3 without coding?

Yes. Direct plug & play — the ECU reads MTP-1002 identically to the OE 07K 905 715 coil. No coding or adaptation needed on any 2.5 TFSI variant, iron-block or EA855 evo.

Do I really need all 5, or can I just replace the one that's misfiring?

Replace all 5 as a set. If one coil is down, the other four have identical heat cycles and hours on them — they're next. Mixed-age coils cause uneven spark energy across the bank and the ECU compensates by pulling timing, which costs you the very performance you're paying for. If you're stranded, one coil gets you home — then do the set.

I'm running Stage 1 / Stage 2 — are these coils up to 500+ bhp?

This is exactly where they earn their keep. A mapped DAZA/DNWA pushes cylinder pressures far beyond factory spec and tired OE coils are one of the most common misfire causes on tuned five-cylinders. MTP-1002 carries 12% more spark energy with better heat handling — the same coil family Audi fits to the R8 V10 and Lamborghini Huracán. Same connector, same fitment, straight swap.
